Workshop 1

'Team Writing: Rejection, Inspiration and Success'

Presenter: Professor Paul Gibbs (School of Health & Education), supported by the writing collaboration team members

Delegates will be exposed to a team writing process for constructing a project title, abstract and research paper.  In small groups, participants will discuss different conference themes using the process of team writing to develop ideas.  The workshop also gives participants an opportunity to discuss journal selection, submission, acceptance and rejection.

Outline:  Middlesex colleagues will share an overview with delegates about their experiences of taking part in an ongoing team writing collaboration made up of Teaching Fellows, CAPE and AWL staff. The experiences of team writing members will be shared across informal albeit different levels of involvement: co-ordinator, team leader and participant.

This will be followed by group work using the process of team writing to discuss different conference themes and develop ideas through structuring abstracts, considering research paper structures and potential journals for publication. We will reconvene to discuss what groups have done and share our learning.

This workshop is mainly practice oriented and team writing will be explored from the perspective of project members rather than theory. We encourage participants to bring topics for discussion which are relevant to the “Unpacking teaching excellence” conference themes.
